Regional Overview
The Caravel Copper Project is a +25 year copper mining and processing project planned for the Wongan Hills region, approximately 150km (a 90-minute drive) north-east of Perth in Western Australia. The project is 100% independently owned by ASX listed company Caravel Minerals.

The project is planned to produce up to 65,000 tonnes of copper in concentrate per year, create more than 600 jobs during construction and more than 200 full-time jobs once operational.

Copper has a strong outlook and is a key component for infrastructure and technologies required for decarbonisation. The Caravel Copper Project will play a significant role in providing copper to global markets across a multi-generational lifespan.

Currently, the Project is working to obtain the necessary approvals processes, including Part IV Environmental Protection Act approval with the Western Australian Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).

Caravel Minerals values the support and involvement of a wide range of local stakeholders in the project’s development.

Our Approach
Our aim is to become a valued member of the community, not just by contributing directly through employment and business opportunities, but also through investing in initiatives that positively contribute to the local area.

Our work to date with stakeholders has been essential to designing a project which will successfully co-exist within this broadacre agricultural area in the Wheatbelt and make a positive contribution during and beyond operations.

The work is ongoing, and the company looks forward to continuing engagement throughout the life of the project.

Opportunities for Local Businesses
Over the past few years, Caravel has met with local Wheatbelt businesses to identify opportunities to supply goods and services to the Caravel Copper project.

This early engagement allowed us to gauge interest and also supports local businesses to plan for the future.

We will continue to share opportunities as the project progresses.

Indigenous Peoples and Heritage

The Caravel Project area is primarily located within the Yued People’s Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) area.

Caravel Minerals signed a heritage protection agreement with the South West Land and Sea Council representing the Yued People Traditional Owners, and is continuing engagement with SWALSC, the Yued People and their new governing bodies.

Caravel has completed extensive archaeological and ethnographic surveys with the Yued group.

Caravel will continue to work with the Yued group to ensure ongoing management of any identified heritage values associated with the Project.

We have and will continue to ensure all activities undertaken are compliant with the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972.
