DFS Factsheet

About the Project

It’s a new copper mine and processing plant planned north of Wongan Hills, in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. The project, when approved and built, will operate for approximately 25 years, producing copper concentrate (and some molybdenum) for export, supporting the global shift to renewable energy and electric vehicles.

The main mine site (Bindi pit) is about 12km west of Wongan Hills, Western Australia on the Calingiri-Wongan Hills Road.  A smaller pit (Dasher) is planned to be mined later (from year 5) and will likely be connected by a private haul road.

We’re completing a Definitive Feasibility Study (due 2026). When approved and funded, construction could start in 2027-8, with first production around 2029–2030.

From the Calingiri–Wongan Hills Road, you’ll progressively see low waste-rock landforms, a processing plant, and sand tailings storage forming - all set back from the road. We’re retaining valuable pockets of remnant trees and planting fast-growing trees in a 20–30 m wide screen along the road, plus a wider 200 m native vegetation corridor to hide infrastructure and reconnect wildlife habitat.

Jobs & Economy

Around 600 jobs during the 2-year construction phase and 200–300 permanent jobs for 25+ years of operation.

We have met with businesses interested in catering, cleaning, maintenance, and supply contracts. A “local content” plan will be part of our approvals.

  • Estimated $1.7 billion capital investment
  • $35 million+ per year in State royalties
  • Upgraded power infrastructure (33 kV → 132 kV line) benefiting residents and businesses
  • Potential gravel/aggregate supply for roadworks and other uses

Environment & Sustainability

  • Water will come from a dedicated borefield – not local farm bores or dams.
  • There will be strict limits and real-time monitoring.
  • All chemicals will be stored in bunded, lined areas with spill kits.
  • Tailings and waste rock tested and contained.
  • Independent regulators (DWer, EPA).

The site is designed with barriers, bunds, and controlled drainage. No untreated water or chemicals can reach Lake Ninan. Water quality will be tested regularly.

We’ve avoided high-value vegetation and habitats. Any unavoidable impact is offset with new conservation land involving progressive rehabilitation which will restore habitat over time.

An on-site engineered landfill for general waste (no Shire tip use). Recyclables reused. Hazardous waste removed by licensed contractors.

Community and Lifestyle

  • Strict code of conduct in contracts.

  • Cultural awareness training.

  • Bussing to site for safety.

  • Shutdowns scheduled around harvest, seeding, wildflower season.

  • No use of local motels/gyms during peak events.

  • Operation: ~4–5 B-doubles per day to port via Wongan–Calingiri Road (Main Roads asset).
  • No local shire roads for concentrate transport.
